Parkinson's disease

Parkinson's disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disease- after Alzheimer's Disease, mainly causing motor control dysfunction. The three characteristic present symptoms are rigidity, bradikinesia and resting tremor, but other symptoms have also been reported such as cognitive decline and autonomic dysfunction. Parkinson's disease causes progressive degeneration of the substantia nigra and the dopaminergic pathway, microglia activation and protein accumulation in the surviving neurons, known as Lewy bodies and Lewy neurites.
