I remember trying to reconcile Sutton Hoo with the normality of Anglo-Saxon pagan or Christian finds and being overwhelmed by its very grandeur [David M. Wilson]. David Wilson’s reminiscence raises the spectre of whether discoveries from the Sutton Hoo ship-burial can realistically be harmonized with contemporary contexts and artefacts.
