As proved by all reports and statistics worldwide, asthma has increased markedly in recent decades and is continuing to increase, even in countries that have been relatively unaffected by the disease in the past. Although genetic factors are important in the manifestation of asthma, the rapid increase in the prevalence of this disorder cannot be related to genetic factors alone. Changes in the social and economic environments to more industrial and modern also need to be taken into account. According to WHO estimates, 300 million people suffer from asthma and 255 000 people died of asthma in 2005 (WHO, Online). It is the most common chronic disease among children.
