The Election of 1848

The election of 1848 wasn't one that was outstanding or to "exciting", but had good meaning. There were issues that had to be resolved and the candidates had their ways ready for how they would better our country. They stood behind there platforms and all that they believed. Some of them were bold and to the point, other more, following the wants and needs. All of these things in which will be explained in better detail.
The two main deciding parties of the election of 1848 were the Whig party and Democratic. There were also two others that ran too, the Democratic and National Liberty Party.

The Election of 1836

The presidential election of 1836 has gone down in history as one of the most insignificant. However, this could not be more wrong. Exiting the era of Jackson, America was looking to get away from any inkling of the past 8 years. This entire election had nothing to do with the people involved or what their views were. Every detail of this election was about whether or not you supported or opposed Jacksonian ideals. Despite these details, this election was truly significant for beginning the Second American Party System, being the only to intentionally run more than one candidate from a single party, and for being the first and only time to have the vice presidential election thrown into Senate.

The forgotten land 1992-2001

Afghanistan is the land with ethnic diversitylike other hundred countries in the world. By abusing this diversity, ethnic discriminationhas been one of the effective factors of civil wars in Afghanistan. When the Soviets pulled-out and Afghanistan recovered its sovereignty. Afghanistan was no longer considered important by the international community. Those who had remained committed to Afghanistan for the purist of their own interest. External and proxy interventions by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the former Soviet Union and the USA made the situation worse. The nation that had stood united against the external enemy became fragile. The tune changed. The image of Mujahidin became one of reactionaries, fighting amongst themselves and unable to form a government.

The fascist rise to power in italy

In the dawn of the 21st century, the advanced countries of the modern world have united around a single political system - democracy. However, it has not always been that way, and democracy was much opposed even in the recent past. A bright example of this struggle is the period that followed World War I. There were no real victors because the war inflicted serious damage not only to most European economies but to the people's belief in democracy. Thus in some countries the parties that opposed democracy were able to use the advantage and gain power. The disappointed post World War I society and the ruined economy combined with Mussolini's effective tactics and propaganda were the reasons behind the success of fascism in Italy.

The Great Depression and its effect on Europe

We were given the opportunity to do an in-depth research on one aspect of European history. In my report i've chosen to write about "The Great Depression", because I wanted to link this history course to our economic courses. My research question is as follows: "The Great Depression and its effects on Europe", I've chosen for Europe because I'm European and because most literature and sources are about the effects on the World as a whole, or on the United States only.

The popularity of sports

The popularity of sports is determined by political administrations, economy, and most of all by the social lifestyle of societies. Sports provide a direct reflection of a nation's cultural identity and unite groups of people to cheer for their country's team. Football, or soccer named after the word "association" is the most popular and widely played sport in the world and has become a cultural icon. Soccer is the first sport to have been truly integrated into mass popular culture and considered the "people's game." Soccer was first formulated in the 19th century in Great Britain.

Overview of the French Revolution roots

This essay would represent short overview of the French Revolution roots, which has promoted in Europe new social structure as well as English revolution dealt with the era of the new governments: "Three decades ago, François Furet famously announced that the French Revolution was over. Napoleon's armies ceased to march around Europe long ago, and Louis XVIII even returned to occupy the throne of his guillotined brother. And yet the Revolution's memory continues to hold sway over imaginations and cultures around the world. This sway is felt particularly strongly by those who are interested in history: for the French Revolution not only altered the course of history radically, but became the fountainhead of historicism and the origin of the historical mentality".

European Expansion of Africa in the 15th and 16th centuries

On the dawn of 12 April, two hundred German military men, recently came from Europe, and took up their positions around the small colony of Hornkranz. The settlement was the African tribe's habitation, the tribe was called Witbooi, and despite the fact that only just 100 kilometers from Windhoek, the capital of German South West Africa, Hornkranz's inhabitants had prosperously resisted the encroaching imperial power. However on that April morning their village was at peace. Most of its residents were sleeping. Their chief, Hendrik Witbooi, the man who had inspired a bold defiance of the German was quietly seated outside his home, enjoying coffee with his family.

Canada's Hundred Days: Canadian participation in the Grand Offensive

In my essay I am going to analyze Canada's role in the First World War, the Grand Offensive, supported by analyzing their role in the major battles. I am also going to investigate the causes, events and results of their participation in one of the most devastating wars in human history. I am going to argue that Canada had a vital role in the Grand Offensive in defeating the German Imperial Army. As the Dominion of Newfoundland was not part of the Dominion of Canada at the time of the war, and as the 1st Newfoundland Regiment (also known as Royal Newfoundland Regiment) did not take part in the Grand Offensive, I am not going to take a look at them in my essay.

Due Process

Due process is the process of the law that is due. Every person no matter what their crime might be they have civil rights that must be met. Due process holds the government subservient to the law of the land, protecting individual persons from the state. “The Fifth Amendment guarantee of due process is applicable only to actions of the federal government. The Fourteenth Amendment contains virtually the same phrase, but expressly applied to the states. Therefore, those two clauses only apply against state actors, and not against private citizens. The Supreme Court has interpreted those two clauses identically, as Justice Felix Frankfurter once explained in a concurring opinion: “To suppose that ‘due process of law' meant one thing in the Fifth Amendment and another in the Fourteenth is too frivolous to require elaborate rejection.”

Discovery of Agriculture

One discovery can change the course of history. Whether it's the invention of the wheel or the discovery of lightning, every important innovation carries its own weight in dragging history in a different direction. The same applies to the development of agriculture and how it shaped history. These changes included a population increase; the emergence of villages, towns, and cities; and a specialization of labour.

Cruel and Unusual Punishment

The United States Constitution protects its citizens from the government in many cases; one of the things it protects against is cruel and unusual punishment.
So what is cruel and unusual punishment? Most people think of burning at the stake, tarring and feathering, and crucifixion. Of course, these are considered cruel and unusual; however, the definition “cruel and unusual” isn't limited to these medieval methods of torture. The court case Furman v. Georgia resulted in Justice Brennan giving an outline of four characteristics to diagnose a cruel and unusual punishment in his concurring opinion.

Critical Crisis

Over the past couple of years, the government has continued to increase spending and the national debt in response to save businesses from the recession that has taken an icy grip on the proud United States of America. In this time of a critical crisis, the American people need a political figure to stand up and fight for the injustice of their current predicament because if nothing is done and the fears of the people are not settled then the past may repeat itself causing the United States to have another American Revolution.

Historical Perspectives in Relation to the Controversy of the Holocaust Denial Movement

Holocaust is one of the most thoroughly researched periods of history. This essay reflects how history has been researched by historians, perceived and recorded over time tracing changes in the historical interpretation and perspectives of the Holocaust denial movement, and the extent of the Holocaust during World War Two. It aims to identifying the historians who have debated the denial movement and revisionist historians who verse the traditional perspectives of the Holocaust. Crimean War (1853-1856)

To what extent can the collapse of the Concert of Europe be attributed to the Crimean War (1853-1856)?
The collapse of the Concert of Europe can be attributed to the Crimean War to a limited extent as there were many other factors which acted to undermine the Concert, causing instability and disputes amongst the nations involved. Although the Crimean War can be indentified to have been a major instance in which participating countries disregarded their policies of peace in pursuit of national interest, this was not as significant to the collapse as earlier factors which essentially rendered the Concert obsolete.

Contemporary Middle East History

During the 18th and 19th centuries, the Middle Eastern Empires were faced with several difficulties. European infringement presented several challenges for the Middle East - intellectually, and technologically, economically, politically and socially. In dealing with these issues, the Middle East had to adapt to, or at least become more familiar with the contemporary West.
At the time of the Industrial Revolution, following the Napoleonic War, parts of the Middle East, specifically the Ottoman Empire, began its integration into the modern world economy (Gelvin, 2008). The dominating economic forces were the European countries, and because of this, the Middle East, not being on the same economic level as the West, found it difficult to adapt to this world system.

Consequence of the First World War

Fascism was a direct consequence of the First World War. Discuss this statement with reference to either Mussolini's rise to power 1918-1925, or Hitler's rise to power, 1918-1933.
Offering a definitive and comprehensive assessment which accounts for the rise of militant fascism in Europe during the inter war years is something which has plagued historians for many years. As such, a variety of issues and factors have been proffered in vehement fashion in an attempt to effectively comprehend the successful emergence of fascism. The diversity and division which exists on this subject therefore reflects the complex nature of fascist development in the short interlude between the world wars.
