Case Analysis in Strategic Management

The theme of the case can be summarized as a conflict between job authority and business ethics. International Satellite Images (ISI) is one of the leading satellite imagery service providers in US the other two being Lockart and Global Sciences. Jim Willis, the Vice President of Marketing and sales at ISI finds that the current project of satellite imaging with accuracy of 1 meter is prone to be delayed by about 18 months due to problems faced by the sub contractor in developing thermal stabilizer for the satellite.

Strategic Management in Skilled Based Institutions

According to Mintzberg (2005) "Organizations are complex phenomena and managing them is a difficult, nuanced business, requiring all sorts of tacit understanding that can only be gained in context". Strategy is seen as a means of direction and scope that helps to channel the course for organizations to achieve a competitive advantage in its changing environment. There is precise definition of strategy. The term strategy is often used in a variety of ways to explain the decisions and actions organizations pursue. In skilled based institutions Strategy planning and implementation helps to boost business of the institutions Volberda (2005) has explained strategy in a way that this field is replete with competing prescriptions and directives with regard to successful performance.
