The popularity of sports is determined by political administrations, economy, and most of all by the social lifestyle of societies. Sports provide a direct reflection of a nation's cultural identity and unite groups of people to cheer for their country's team. Football, or soccer named after the word "association" is the most popular and widely played sport in the world and has become a cultural icon. Soccer is the first sport to have been truly integrated into mass popular culture and considered the "people's game." Soccer was first formulated in the 19th century in Great Britain.
