Sleep Airway Insomnia

Since there are numerous neurological, psychiatric and internal illnesses have characterstics manifested during or infleunced by sleep, somnology has been playing a clinically more important role in the diagnosis of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). If history taking can arouse an appropriate suspicion, objective upper airway assessment can give a comprehensive view of the possible site(s) of upper airway obstruction, OSA is then diagnosed with the use of polysomnography by documenting repititive periods of upper airway closure during sleep. This can be achieved by an ambulatory polygraphic exploration. The definitive diagnosis is then established with the aid of polysomnography in the sleep lab where specific treatment can also be initiated
