The flood stories of ancient times are significant in both literary terms and in what they say about the cultures of the place and time in which they were created. Both the flood stories in The Epic of Gilgamesh and Genesis tell tales that indicate many of the values of the cultures in which they were produced. Because of this these texts are invaluable to both fields of writing and history.
