Hyperopia Myopic Children

Hyperopia also known as hypermetropia or colloquially as long sightedness, is a refractive error of the eye where parallel light rays are bought into focus behind the retina, resulting in blurred vision. The further the focal point of light from the retina surface, the greater the degree of hyperopia. Mild to moderate hyperopia can be overcome by accommodation in youth and early adulthood providing there is sufficient accommodative amplitude (1). Severe hyperopia will cause associated symptoms and therefore requires correction at all ages. Hyperopia can easily be corrected using spectacles, contact lenses or more recently refractive surgery, but this represents a large economic burden.
