The Election of 1848

The election of 1848 wasn't one that was outstanding or to "exciting", but had good meaning. There were issues that had to be resolved and the candidates had their ways ready for how they would better our country. They stood behind there platforms and all that they believed. Some of them were bold and to the point, other more, following the wants and needs. All of these things in which will be explained in better detail.
The two main deciding parties of the election of 1848 were the Whig party and Democratic. There were also two others that ran too, the Democratic and National Liberty Party.

The Election of 1836

The presidential election of 1836 has gone down in history as one of the most insignificant. However, this could not be more wrong. Exiting the era of Jackson, America was looking to get away from any inkling of the past 8 years. This entire election had nothing to do with the people involved or what their views were. Every detail of this election was about whether or not you supported or opposed Jacksonian ideals. Despite these details, this election was truly significant for beginning the Second American Party System, being the only to intentionally run more than one candidate from a single party, and for being the first and only time to have the vice presidential election thrown into Senate.

The forgotten land 1992-2001

Afghanistan is the land with ethnic diversitylike other hundred countries in the world. By abusing this diversity, ethnic discriminationhas been one of the effective factors of civil wars in Afghanistan. When the Soviets pulled-out and Afghanistan recovered its sovereignty. Afghanistan was no longer considered important by the international community. Those who had remained committed to Afghanistan for the purist of their own interest. External and proxy interventions by Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the former Soviet Union and the USA made the situation worse. The nation that had stood united against the external enemy became fragile. The tune changed. The image of Mujahidin became one of reactionaries, fighting amongst themselves and unable to form a government.

The fascist rise to power in italy

In the dawn of the 21st century, the advanced countries of the modern world have united around a single political system - democracy. However, it has not always been that way, and democracy was much opposed even in the recent past. A bright example of this struggle is the period that followed World War I. There were no real victors because the war inflicted serious damage not only to most European economies but to the people's belief in democracy. Thus in some countries the parties that opposed democracy were able to use the advantage and gain power. The disappointed post World War I society and the ruined economy combined with Mussolini's effective tactics and propaganda were the reasons behind the success of fascism in Italy.

The Great Depression and its effect on Europe

We were given the opportunity to do an in-depth research on one aspect of European history. In my report i've chosen to write about "The Great Depression", because I wanted to link this history course to our economic courses. My research question is as follows: "The Great Depression and its effects on Europe", I've chosen for Europe because I'm European and because most literature and sources are about the effects on the World as a whole, or on the United States only.

The French Revolution

The French Revolution caused a great deal of changes in the society and government in France. The revolution lasted from 1789 to 1799.
What caused the revolution? There were a number of social political and economic conditions that caused upset with the lower and middle classes. Some were interested in ideas about changing the government as well as the fact that the wars caused a lot of debt. There also were some problems with social groups called estates. The clergy made up the first estate, nobles made up the second and the rest included the peasants and working class.

The Hemlock Woolly Adelgid

The Hemlock Woolly Adelgid (HWA) was first introduced in the western states in 1924. Native to Asia, the hemlock woolly adelgid (Adelges tsugae) is a small, aphidlike insect that threatens the health and sustainability of eastern hemlock (Tsuga canadensis) and Carolina hemlock (Tsuga caroliniana) in the Eastern United States (Dept. of Agriculture., 2005). The most severe cases have been found in the eastern states including: Pennsylvania, Virginia, New Jersey and Connecticut. It takes the HWA between four and ten years to completely eradicate the tree. The knowledge of being able to slow down the HWA would greatly increase your chances of saving your Hemlock on your property and around the USA.

The popularity of sports

The popularity of sports is determined by political administrations, economy, and most of all by the social lifestyle of societies. Finding a new location for an Armani store - in a Hotel

Finding the right location for a luxury fashion brand is one of the most important elements of a successful business operation. Giorgio Armani produces high price clothes for women and men; therefore the location of a new store is fundamental for a high number of sales. A store such as Armani would be located in a busy, luxury hotel such as Hotel Kempinski. Due to the fact Kempinski is a five star luxury brand; the image of the hotel guarantees the ongoing visitor occupancy, leading all stores inside the lobby to run successful businesses. An expensive hotel usually drives people of higher social classes to enjoy their services, so it can be highly assumed that those who have respect for quality will also buy clothes from Armani.

Expatriate compensation

The research on expatriate compensation has been scarce although many other aspects related to international transfers have been dealt with quite frequently (Briscoe, 1995: 128). Bonache and Fernandez (1997: 457) state that compensation is the aspect of expatriation which has received least attention (see also Suutari and Tornikoski, 2000). On the other hand, expatriate compensation is a complex issue both for individual expatriates and for international companies. Hamill (1989: 26) states that the compensation package is one of the most difficult elements in expatriate policy. The complexity is linked to the diversity of the goals, which should be taken into account in the development of international compensation policies and practices, as will be discussed later.

Ethics in the Gambling Industry

There is little doubt that legalized commercial gambling is now "big business" in many countries, providing a range of economic benefits such as increased government revenue, regional economic development and job creation. However, it is equally recognized that gambling has a range of negative social impacts, with problem gambling arguably attracting the most vocal concern. A significant business issue now facing many gambling providers is growing pressure from a range of stakeholders to adopt more ethical practices in their gambling operations to prevent or minimize problem gambling and its harmful effects (Hing, 2001).

Everyone is an entrepreneur

Baron's (2002) definition of entrepreneurship indicates that entrepreneurship involves a complex process in which specific individuals recognize opportunities and then act to convert them into tangible economic benefits by setting up a new business. This corresponds with Schumpeter's (1934, from: Elliot, 1983) early definition of entrepreneurship and entrepreneurs. He states that an enterprise is "a carrying out of new combinations" and entrepreneurs are the individuals whose function it is to "carry them out". According to Schumpeter everyone is an entrepreneur only when he is actually "carrying out new combinations, and he loses that character as soon as he built up his business.

Employee Relations: Trade Unions & HRM

Employee relations are critical to the success of the organisation. Good communication channels need to be in place for information flow between employers and employees. This holds true for both small and large organisations. In large organisations, there are legal rules in place to engage employee representatives. Employee representation could be in the form of trade unions, works councils, joint working groups and ad-hoc groups. In small companies, the emphasis is on direct communication between employer and employees. Small firms do not require elaborate representational systems and the legal framework excludes them from laws to consult with worker representatives in some cases.

Current treatments for sickle cell

The Sickle-cell disease is a deformation of the erythrocyte from a generally circular cell into the shape of the blade of a sickle. This deformation leads to the inefficient absorption and transport of oxygen by the erythrocyte thereby resulting in chronic anemia, pain, organ damage, capillary obstruction and other complications. The deformation primarily occurs due to mutation of a single base pair in the β-globin gene. This in turn results in the substitution of Glutamic Acid for Valine at the 6th position of the β-globin chain of the haemoglobin. The common form of Sickle-cell anemia is termed haemoglobin S (HbS). (Inati, 2009) The β-globin gene is located on the autologous chromosomes and therefore present in two copies in the human genetic make up.

Overview of the French Revolution roots

This essay would represent short overview of the French Revolution roots, which has promoted in Europe new social structure as well as English revolution dealt with the era of the new governments: "Three decades ago, François Furet famously announced that the French Revolution was over. Napoleon's armies ceased to march around Europe long ago, and Louis XVIII even returned to occupy the throne of his guillotined brother. And yet the Revolution's memory continues to hold sway over imaginations and cultures around the world. This sway is felt particularly strongly by those who are interested in history: for the French Revolution not only altered the course of history radically, but became the fountainhead of historicism and the origin of the historical mentality".

Germany

Looking back on the lives of our ancestors, we get a better understanding as to why we are here in the United States today. It's not everyday people are thinking about their ancestors and taking into consideration that they are the reason we are here in our lives. It's hard to think that we have had ancestors that lived or live in different countries other than the one country we are familiar with. Our ancestors can be traced back farther than we think. We can look back two hundred years or more and see why they made a transition to the United States. Both my mother and father's ancestors came from Germany. This simply means that I can consider myself to be German-American.

European Expansion of Africa in the 15th and 16th centuries

On the dawn of 12 April, two hundred German military men, recently came from Europe, and took up their positions around the small colony of Hornkranz. The settlement was the African tribe's habitation, the tribe was called Witbooi, and despite the fact that only just 100 kilometers from Windhoek, the capital of German South West Africa, Hornkranz's inhabitants had prosperously resisted the encroaching imperial power. However on that April morning their village was at peace. Most of its residents were sleeping. Their chief, Hendrik Witbooi, the man who had inspired a bold defiance of the German was quietly seated outside his home, enjoying coffee with his family.
